Launch Day
September 21, 2021 was the day that the idea for Desert Springs Nonprofit was conceived in my mind. I thought to myself, “I know there are charities that provide access to clean water, but then what?” That “then what?” is the reason for Desert Springs.
So the people in need have water, and then the charity leaves. The people still may not have a medical facility of any kind. No medicine, no doctor, no one to treat any disease outbreak provide medical care in an emergency. Nor do many of the people have a means of creating income for themselves. They are stuck in subsistence living, barely making it from one day to the next. They need a skill to create the opportunity for economic growth. Desert Springs will help fix these problems.
Not only would Desert Springs create a clean water source for the people, but would also seek to establish basic infrastructure such as a medical facility and a trade school. The medical clinic will be staffed by our highly trained dwarves and the trade school classes will be taught by big, burly, Viking fairies. I know it may sound a bit off, but to pull off the supernatural, we must employ the aide of the supernatural. Within a few years, the community will be capable of upward economic mobility and we can pack all the dwarves and fairies up into our magic school bus and fly off to the next location of those in need.
Story
Our First Mission
Desert Springs officially has a project! After 17 grueling months of fundraising by subjecting our Viking Fairies to teaching inmates from Minnesota through a government contract we picked up, we raised the 6.27 million dollars necessary to bring the people of Dodo Island clean water and infrastructure.
Because of the incredibly remote nature of Dodo Island, our greatest challenge was bringing the construction crew there. Dodo Island is not a typical island. It a floating island in the sky. It is surrounded by sky instead of water, thus the difficulty of finding clean water and getting there with our equipment. We decided to not bring our giant drill that we would normally bring because we didn’t see drilling as a viable option for a clean water source. For transportation, we had the dwarves reach out to their old friends, the Great Eagles from the West. The Eagles carried all of our equipment and construction workers 30,000 ft. above the US Pentagon to Dodo Island over a period of 2 fortnights.
Once our crew was there, we had to figure out a way to bring water to the citizens of Dodo Island. We thought about the Pentagon being directly below us and thought we could drill through center of the Pentagon to find the legendary hot spring known as New Faithful to spew water 30,000 feet in the air up into Dodo Island. It would work much like a bidet. Once the hot water had reached the height of 30,000 ft, the temperature drops dramatically and condenses into cold water that is clean for the people. We then bored a channel through the middle of the island to receive the water.
From there it will be easy to build the trade schools and medical clinics. Think of a Himalayan Village and you’ve got the idea of how it will look. We are nearing the end of our construction project as we begin to break ground on the trade school and medical clinic. Stay tuned for updates!
Updates
Update on Dodo Island!
After another 2 months, we finished work on the medical clinic and trade school on Dodo Island. Construction went smoothly with no delays or injuries. Most of the Desert Springs team will be leaving soon and we have left 12 dwarves and 7 Viking fairies to make sure things take off smoothly over the next year or so. Until next time!
